Child Assessment 227 M6010 (3 credits)
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This is a graduate level course in clinical psychology. Students are assumed to have a thorough knowledge of childhood psychopathology. The aim of this course is to learn to apply knowledge of psychopathology to individual persons, in order to assess the problems faced by child patients. Students will learn various clinical interview techniques, use of common psychological assessment instrument and interpretation of results, collection of relevant data, and integration of all information to conceptualize each case. An emphasis will be placed on cognitive functioning with a neuropsychological approach in assessment.
At the end of this course, students should be able collect relevant information to answer the referral question through appropriate clinical interview, selection of appropriate assessment instruments, interpretation of data, and be able to communicate conceptualization of the case via writing of clinical reports and providing feedback/recommendations to patients and family.
Pre-requisites: Graduate course in Childhood Psychopathology or Clinical Child Psychology. Due to the intensity of the course and limited vacancy, this course is not open to students from other departments or universities. Auditing will not be allowed with no exceptions.
